The third race of the 2008 NSDA season is now in the history books from the Yuma Speedway Park adjacent to the Cocopah Casino and Resort in Yuma, AZ. Dennis Rieck was victorious in an incredible final round race with Scott Whipple to take the Top Fuel class win. Gary Mink won the Top Alcohol class in a repeat match up of the final round at the most recent NSDA event over Mike DeNunzio. Tiffany Januik became the first person to stop Steve Hoffman in 2008 in the Top Eliminator class with her final round victory. Other class winners on the day were Mike Erwin (Pro 1), Phil Soper (Pro 2), Steve Bertram (Pro 3), Tom Hanrahan (MC Pro 1), and George Amos (MC Pro 2).

Top Fuel
Saturday was interesting for the Top Fuel class with only one qualifying round being completed. Scott Whipple and Dennis Rieck paired up and ran 2.506 and 2.552 respectively. Dennis’ pass was a small improvement from Friday. Pete Schenk made another wild pass in the “Turtle’s Toy” ride with a 3.215. Pete’s team has parked their ride for the weekend and joined Shane Switzer as not making it to race day as Shane’s car suffered damage on Friday.

Richard Montiel held on to the top spot after getting a big challenge from Gary Mink. Gary ran a 2.448 and was the only Top Alcohol class driver to improve on Saturday.

Scott Whipple started off the weekend with an amazing 2.324/171.14mph pass. Whipple tried to better the record in the evening session, but ran a 2.430. Dennis Rieck sits second with a 2.593 with Shane Switzer third at 2.607. Rounding out the Top Fuel class is Pete Schenk in Gary Brown’s “Turtle’s Toy” with a 3.533 on a licensing pass.

Richard Montiel picked up where he left off in Soboba as the #1 qualifier running a 2.435 on his first pass of the weekend. Montiel was unable to run the evening session. Sitting second is Dan Allen in his record holding Lucas Oil-backed dragster with a 2.463. Gary Mink made an excellent pass to put him third with a 2.506.
