tomjeep.jpgIt’s hard to believe that the 2008 sand drag racing season has come to an end. It seems like just yesterday that NSDN was heading to Yuma for the Season Opener in January. It’s amazing how time flies when you are having fun. The 2008 season saw NSDN provide our on-site Daily Race Coverage at nine events in five states. It was a long, fun ride all year long, and it’s time to thank those that helped make it possible.

First off, I’d like to thank our photographers that contributed in 2008 to bring the highest quality images to NSDN throughout the season. C3 Productions, Joe and Roseanne Madrid, were a pleasure to work with throughout the season at all of the NSDA races. They do a fantastic service for the racers at each NSDA race. Also, look for their new magazine, Paddle Action, to hit the ground running in 2009. I will be writing for Paddle Action, so there will be no lack of sand drag racing coverage in their publication. Lone Star Graphics also was a pleasure to work with in 2008 at various races across the country. Gary and Michelle Burrows have a first class operation selling everything from T-Shirts to Novelty Items and everything in between. An astonishing fact is that in 2008, Lone Star Graphics ended up traveling to 19 events in 7 states. Also, Ruben Rodriguez of Crazy Photo Squad sent us in photos from the Dome Valley events. Continue to patronize our photographers as they provide a great service to our sand drag racing community.

Thanks goes out to NSDN contributors/columnists in 2008; Isaac DeHaan, Mike Ellington, Derek Howard, Kody Teters, Amy Laitala, Dan Wies, and Jason Harris. A great feature that NSDN debuted in 2008 was the NSDN “Racer Blogs”. I also have to give a big thank you out to Mike Erwin, Mike DeNunzio, Joey Weaver, Dan Wies, and Rod Trower for participating in this during the 2008 season. I hope to grow this feature in 2009, if you are interested in submitting stories feel free to send me an e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. I know there are some out there that would like to submit a racer blog, but feel that their grammar or spelling would not be up to par. Do not worry about that as I clean up all submitted entries, so don’t hesitate to participate in the 2009 “Racer Blogs”.

Last but not least, I have to thank those who keep us going from event to event each year. I am honored to work with the National Sand Drag Association (NSDA) at all of their events. They run a first class race program top to bottom and truly are first class as people as well. Speaking of first class people, Rick Morris and the Heavy Metal/2 Dolla’ Bill team deserve a huge thank you for all they do for NSDN. Canidae Pet Food and Scott Whipple are also great supporters of NSDN and have our sincere appreciation. Sand Sports Magazine gives me the space in their print magazine to showcase our little slice of the pie to the sand sports community. Another of our partners is Mike Ellington with Sand Drag Central www.sanddragcentral.com. I encourage you to visit SDC and interact in their forums with the rest of the sand drag racing community. Please continue to patronize our sponsors above and take the time to let them know how much you appreciate what they do to keep NSDN as the leading news source in the sport.

Despite uncertainty in today’s economy, NSDN heads into 2009 looking to continue in our growth pattern. In 2008, we experienced a 61% increase in page views. We would like to continue to not only grow NSDN, but grow the sport of sand drag racing. To keep this going at our current pace and provide you with the highest quality race coverage, we are looking for additional 2009 sponsorship on NSDN. If you have a motor sports related business, the sand drag racing niche market is one where a nice ROI can be obtained throughout relatively inexpensive advertising on NSDN. For a non-motor sports related business, the sand drag racing market is populated heavily by business owners and decision makers in business, which can bring about beneficial B2B relationships. In uncertain economic times, you never know where your next lead can come from and advertising through NSDN has the potential to cultivate these relationships. With our standard ad package starting at just $400/year or $250/6 Months, why not at least contact us to see what we can do for you. If you need more reasons to advertise with NSDN, just e-mail us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or if you want to talk over the phone, e-mail us your number and we’ll contact you ASAP.

The 2009 sand drag racing season is just around the corner after the holidays. We’ll get heavy into a preview of 2009 and one final look back at the 2008 season in the next issue of NSDN. Until then, have a happy and safe holiday season!
