tbjeeplead.jpgAfter a quiet start to the season, things are ready to explode in May with lots of great sand drag racing action across the country. NSDN’s schedule is jam packed with big events and coverage across the country in the upcoming month. May 14-16, NSDN will be at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Complex in Lake Elsinore, CA, for the NSDA Walt’s RV Summer Nationals. The Inaugural NSDA Lake Elsinore event last month showed what huge potential the facility has in promoting the sport with a great spectator turnout. The on track action also was nothing to sneeze at with a Top Fuel World Record being set (more on that later in this article), Top Alcohol records nearly being broken, and razor close races in each category. It should be amazing to see what the next event has to offer.

While on the subject of Lake Elsinore, it was amazing to see the racers band together to put such a massive effort into building an amazing race track. Guys like Larry Snow, Paul Graham, Rick Morris & crew, Dennis Rieck, Larry Brown, Tony DeNunzio, and countless others that I apologize for not naming, really did a superb job making it happen. Thank these guys when you see them for their countless hours of effort to bring sand drags back to Southern California.

Moving on from the west coast all the way to Ohio will be our second NSDN Daily Race Coverage event in May as the Pro Truck Nationals series kicks off their season May 21-22 at the IOK Grounds in Cleves, OH. This is shaping up to be the major kick off to the Midwest race season. Racers from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, & Missouri will converge on the little town of Cleves to play at the newly renovated IOK facility. Dave Ohmer and crew have put in a huge effort this off season; moving the track over to allow for more shut down & putting in new K-Rail to replace the old standard guard rail. From the pictures posted on Sand Drag Central, the track looks in tip top shape and ready to host the top sand drag racing in the Midwest.

Last but definitely not least on our May NSDN Daily Race Coverage schedule is the May 28-30 Heartland Nationals at Atoka Motorsports Park in Atoka, OK. Cecil & Debbie Wilson put on a great show at their track and this year looks to be no exception, especially with Rod Trower putting up a $5000 purse for the Top Eliminator class. That’s right, folks, $5000. If you have a TE car, you better be heading for Atoka on Memorial Weekend. Of course, the race isn’t just for TE cars, as there will be everything from Top Alcohol on down to Junior classes. One of the highlights of the weekend is always the Quick 16 Cars & ATV classes on Friday night. This is a great fast paced show that entertains the local Oklahoma crowd.

So, as you can see, we have three NSDN Daily Race Coverage events in the month of May. It is obvious that we will be very busy with the latest and greatest sand drag racing coverage. With our busy schedule, there will be a few events that we will be unable to cover this month.
