The 2017 SCSDA Season Opener is in the books after an incredible day of eliminations at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, CA. Jake Morton got the job done in the Top Alcohol final recording a 2.53 to defeat #1 qualifier Jim Hammond’s 2.56 in a great wheel-to-wheel battle. The Top Eliminator final saw #1 qualifier Billy Morris use a great .069 RT and 3.01 ET to defeat Paul Graham’s great 2.98. The story of the weekend was Michigan’s Adam Roe making the cross-country trip to sweep the weekend in the Fast Fours class. Roe qualified #1, set the new Fast Fours World Record with a 2.705 ET, and won the race in a great final round with Robert Skidmore 2.75 to 2.79. Derek Balcunas emerged the winner of the Pro Mod Unlimited class recording a 3.08 ET to defeat Dave Huffman in the final round. Moises Roano nearly doubled up on Sunday as he piloted his beautiful Ford Truck to the Pro 2 class victory before earning a runner-up finish in the Pro 3 class to Forrest Hudson. Kevin Cambridge made it 2-for-2 in the Pro 1 class while driving his dad Bob’s Dragster. Kevin scored the final round win over Craig Durning. Joey Weaver made it a double-up weekend with the Motorcycle Pro 1 class title to go with his MS1 win from Saturday. Caleb Mings got the job done in Motorcycle Pro 2 defeating the always tough Mark Ratliff in the final round. Junior class winners on Sunday included Ryan Rodriguez (Juniors), Ella Burch (Peewees), Troy Adamson (Junior Dragster Advanced), and Taylor Cameron (Mini Junior Dragster). *Note: Highlight Videos & Run Sheets are NOW posted!!*

The 2017 SCSDA Season Opener continued on Saturday with incredible racing action start to finish. The Saturday Night Thunder Show in front of packed house included some amazing performances. Marcus Norris and the Pat Norris Racing/Worldwide Insurance Specialists team held on to the top spot in Top Fuel with their Friday number, and backed up that performance with a great 2.26 ET to stand for Low ET of Saturday’s Qualifying sessions. Jim Hammond hung on to the top spot in Top Alcohol with his phenomenal 2.411 ET from Friday’s qualifying. Billy Morris also held on from his Friday 2.961 in Top Eliminator to lead the pack into race day. Michigan’s Adam Roe made the long haul worthwhile recording a tremendous 2.705 ET to earn the #1 Qualifying spot in the Fast Fours category. Derek Balcunas emerged as the #1 qualifier in Pro Mod Unlimited. Saturday night’s Pro Gambler victory went to Joe Simeone who defeated Chris Adamson in the final. Mark Ratliff had a great Saturday taking wins in both the Motorcycle Sportsman 2 & Motorcycle Gambler categories. Other winners on the day included Kenny Hayes (Sportsman 1), Anthony Lopez (Sportsman 2), and Joey Weaver (Motorcycle Sportsman 1). This event wraps up on Sunday with eliminations in all remaining categories.

Despite cool weather, the 2017 Southern California Sand Drag Association started off the new season with hot racing action on track. Marcus Norris laid down an incredible 2.256 blast in his Top Fuel Dragster to earn the #1 qualifying spot so far. Both Norris and Matt Ludlow (2.273) recorded Personal Best ET’s & their first ever trips into the 2.2x-second zone. Jim Hammond showed Top Alcohol could keep up with the Personal Best ET’s as he recorded a beautiful 2.411 lap in Q1 to lead the pack. Billy Morris and the Morris Family Racing team started off 2017 on a strong note with a great 2.961 on the 2.95 class Index to lead the Top Eliminator class qualifying sheet headed into day two. Robert Skidmore earned the top spot in Fast Fours with a stellar 2.71 lap followed by Michigan’s Adam Roe, who ran an impressive 2.80 in his first cross country race trip to the west coast. Derek Balcunas shoed the Larry Minor Motorsports Jeep to the top spot in Pro Mod Unlimited with a 2.72. In Friday Pro Gambler action, Charlie Johnson kept up his Gambler class domination by taking the victory over Chris Adamson. Racing action continues Saturday with Sportsman & Pro Gambler class eliminations as well as final qualifying in the Heads-Up categories.
