2012 December

I have to say that the 2012 sand drag racing season was an incredible journey from start to finish. This was a banner year for NSDN with 15 Daily Race Coverage events along with coverage from countless other sand drag events. Readership increased at the largest rate it has in the history of NSDN, which is a positive. It’s hard to jot down all of my thoughts on the 2012 season, but I’ll attempt to hit the high points.

The 2012 NSRA Quality Aircraft Care point series put on a great show on the west coast over the course of the season. All eight events were highly competitive with racers battling it out all season long for the big prizes at the end of the trail. Let’s take a look at the highlights and top performers from the season that was.

The Mid-America Sand Drag Series came together for the first time in 2012 with two races each at Atoka Motorsports Park (Atoka, OK) and Thunder Valley Sand Drags (Grain Valley, MO). This series turned out great for both tracks with lots of cross track & state competition for the series championships. Interestingly enough, two of the Champions are from Texas. Let’s take a look at who were the top performers throughout the MASD series.

The 2012 sand drag racing season wrapped up in early November with the SCSDA Finals at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, CA. This race also closed out the 2012 NSRA point series for the west coast racers. Many championship battles came down to the last race, so that just made things even more intense. Let’s take a look at the action.

NSDN recently ended up the 2012 season with a trip to the International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS) at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN. This is a great trade-only show where manufacturers, buyers, racers, and all involved in the Motorsports industry meet to set up their programs for 2013. NSDN was busy on the show floor talking sand drag racing, and took a few photos along the way to post up. Frederosa’s Team Extreme Racing is heading to the NHRA starting with the 2013 race season. After a long and successful run in the sand drag world, the team with driver Ashley Sanford is transitioning to NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster competition. The team, led by car owner & former sand drag Top Alcohol Champion Shane Sanford, recently purchased a complete turn-key Injected Nitro (A/Fuel) Dragster (pictured to the right) for competition in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Top Alcohol Dragster class. Ashley plans on licensing at Las Vegas in early February before making her debut at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, CA. Shane says this is not the end of the road for them in the sand drag world as they plan on coming back in a couple years once Ashley’s NHRA career has taken off. NSDN wishes the Frederosa team the best of luck in their new endeavor, and hope to see them back in the sand soon. In the mean time, check out all of the parts the team has for sale as they liquidate their Top Fuel & Top Alcohol sand operations. Click "Read More" to view the parts sale. READ MORE.
The Pro Truck Nationals (PTN) group decided to scale back and focus on one big race for the 2012 season. This race ended up being called PTN Championship Weekend 2012 and held at Little Sandy Raceway in Grayson, KY over the first weekend of October. This event crowned a new Pro Truck champion over the two nights of racing action. Let’s take a look at the high points of the weekend.

Dome Valley Raceway was back in business for the October Showdown event at the Wellton, AZ track in late October. Many safety improvements were made to the facility, and the racers were eager to come back to the great Arizona facility. This event saw some huge performances, and close racing. Let’s take a look at the action.

The Mid-America Sand Drag series capped off a successful first season with a visit to Atoka Motorsports Park in Atoka, OK for the Fall Fest event. With threatening skies, the Atoka crew did a great job pushing the show along and beating the weather as champions were crowned. Let’s take a look at the competition from this event.
